In St Lucia horses are mainly used to take tourists for rides around the island and on the beaches. Heartbreakingly many of these horses are in appalling condition and abused, some are privately owned and some live in large yards.  Our aim and why your help is needed, is to improve the welfare, health and living/working conditions for these horses and to create lasting improvement through training and eduction for the owners.

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated equipment for the poor horses of St Lucia Star was the first and there are so many more that need our help and money for food.  He now has the equipment that fits, and proper food and I have explained horse management the best I can.

You can see from this first picture that often tourists ride the horses without the right equipment leading to the horses experiencing painful rides.  This is due to a lack of funds and equipment and a lack of understanding and education about horse management.  These things can be resolved with your help through donations of money and or equipment and working with the owners/tour operators helping them understand how to change practices and better consider horse welfare which is ultimately good for them and the horses.

Working closely with the horse owners to provide them with help in the form of equipment, funding and knowledge

Below the same horse Star with new saddle looking far more comfortable and happier.

An incredible transformation in a matter of days an improvement in food, equipment and treatment will ensure Star lives a happier and healthier working life.

Unfortunately, we see too many horses in need of help malnourished, overworked and with inadequate equipment.  The good news is we can do something about all these issues and the owners are generally receptive and willing to take the action required with our help and support.

Please send any equipment you see here, old or new, all of itis useful to replace the usually dreadful ill-fitting tack currently in use.  Donations towards shipping the equipment to St Lucia is also desperately needed - Thank you to all the incredibly proactive and kind people who have helped so far a great start but more to do.
